Getting tuned up in Banff, Alberta
Posted On Feb 04 2010, 01:23 AM by Spencer Francey

Keeping your board fast and sharp= more fun!

Snowboards aren't  bullet-proof and nor are they invincible.  They take a beating like any other piece of sports equipment... and maybe take the worst beatings of all.  Snowboards are designed to fly down mountains/hills and carve snow.  They have edges and bases made of plastic/p-tex.  No matter how good you are or how long you've been snowboarding, something is going to come between you and your board one day. It might seem horrible at the time.  It's usually a rock, lots of rail sliding or just dropping it in the parking lot off the roof rack. Your board may slow down one day as well... and not be as fast. Don't worry though!!!   This is where going for a "TUNE" comes into play.

The Tune Shop in Banff, Alberta Canada has been fixing these problems for the last ten years.  Helping snowboarders with slow boards, burred and even blown edges get back out onto the mountain to shred it up on boards like they were right out of the Snowboard shop and most times..... even better.

An over look of the shop floor....

Hot wax will make your board go fast...

Hand tuned and textured bases will give you the speed you need to rule the mountain.

Don't be afraid of the sparks.... sparks kill burrs... which are imperfections on your edges.

Yes.. it does work.... one loonie in the slot.

Base grind on one side and edge sharpen on the other.  Wintersteiger machines used in-house exclusively.

Co-owner Dave Sand.  "You did what to your board??? ok... bring it in.. I'll fix it!"

Banana, Mango, Traction Monster, Joytool.... stick... etc.. they have seen them all and can fix them.

Hot wax and buff... Banff Tune Shop style.

If you find yourself in the Banff area Snowboarding and are riding a little slow or maybe found a rock on the mountain check these guys out. They have over night service to most hotels. Owners Dave Sand and Jeff Kostiuk are in the shop nightly taking care of business.
