Traveling anywhere to snowboard is all about timing. Will it snow? Will the sun come out? Scoring perfect conditions is an amazing feeling once you put in alot of time to get somewhere. There's another place to ride right near Portillo ski resort but there aren't any chairlifts.... Just two awesome Snow Cats. Just outside of Los Andes is the crazy road through the farmlands and high switchbacks that will bring you to El Arpa Cat skiing . This is South Americas only true Cat skiing operation and the... A few quick days in the mid south and I'm headed back north to ride at Portillo . This is Chile's first ski resort and the place is pretty much a history hot-bed for Chilean snow sports. I'm on my way south to Chillan, Chile and then up to the resort area Termas de Chillan (Nevados de Chillan). A Volcanic ski resort that reaches up to 3200 metres in elevation and is pretty much snowboard heaven as far as terrain features go... Long flowing lava formed gullies and steep long fall line. Snow had fallen right before I landed in Santiago and I was excited to leave the city and head up to the mountains I could see from the downtown area. My first riding day in the Andes this season would be at the resort El Colorado. It's situated right outside of Santiago. The distance which is a mere 58km from the downtown... (more)

I've made the journey from Canada to Santiago,Chile..... A long journey from summer into winter. My arrivial into Chile brings me from flip flops to a winter jacket in one day.
