The Canadian stop of the World Rookie Tour, dubbed the "Canuck Chuck Rookie Fest Canada", comes to Horseshoe Resort in Ontario this weekend, on Saturday, February 25th. If you're under 18 and looking to get your name out there, possibly winning a trip to Europe while you're at it, this is the place to be. Even Terry Kidwell will be there.
We took a a minute to talk to event organizer Jesse Fulton about the finer points of the contest, including the "mystery prizes".
Is this the first time
the World Rookie Tour has come to Canada?
Yes, this is the first
time it has ever been in Canada, or North America for that matter.
Who is this contest
for?
This contest is for
the kids. For $20 they can register and get almost $100 worth of door prizing.
It's for riders under the age of 18, all abilities, and is televised in over 45
countries.
What's the format for
the contest?
Having fun. It's a
great contest for little groms all the way to accomplished riders; all
abilities are welcome. Depending on the amount of contestants, we will run
either a jam format or a 3 run qualifier into a 3 run final.
What's the prize for
the winner of the Canadian stop?
There are a bunch. 1st
place is an all-expense paid trip to Austria for the World Finals, with three
more European trips to win with some expenses paid, plus over $10,000 in
prizing.
Can you give us a hint
on any of these "mystery" prizes mentioned on the WRT site?
They are motorized.
I'll leave it at that.
I heard snowboarding legend
Terry Kidwell is coming to town as well. What's his role in this?
Yes, Terry Kidwell is
coming to Ontario. The legend himself is coming to help with the event. Terry
is our partner in the States for these events so he's coming up to hang and
give a hand...should be pretty fun. Also, Living
Legend Dennis Bannock is in town to announce this event and the Ontario Snowboard
Championships the weekend after at Mount St Louis. Should be pretty
rad!
Hope to see you all there.
