The ladies of Peepshow continue to tease what will, no doubt, be the all-girls movie to beat this season. Let's Make Better Mistakes Tomorrow will be premiering in a town near you any time now.
From Emily Morton:
In
a world where online articles explain how to pass as a "snowboarder girl"
exist, Peepshow Films is a much needed breath of fresh air.
A
peep show, by definition, is an exhibition of pictures or objects, revealing in
nature, viewed through a small hole. The title couldn't be more fitting to this crew of femmes, who, through film,
reveal the skill, drive, passion and guts it takes to make it as a sponsored
female snowboarder.
A
community project led by June Bhongjan and Esthera Preda, Peepshow doesn't hide
from the unrefined side of being a girl snowboarder; they embrace it. It's not all matching outerwear, fur
lined hoods, and white snowboard boots. It's about long nights of shovelling out stair cases and long days of
traveling in packed cars between Quebec, Minnesota, Ontario, Utah, Colorado,
Alaska and Tahoe. It's about
getting your girlfriends (or their dogs) to tow you in; its hard work.
To
compliment the hard work and hard hitting nature of Peepshow, is a whimsical
and playful attitude. There is a
sense of fun and "who cares, it's just snowboarding". From this attitude came the name for their new project. Let's Make Better Mistakes (tomorrow)
was adopted as it reflected the girls' strive to keep a positive disposition and
to try and not take things too seriously while learning from their mistakes.
The
collective's new film, Lets Make Better
Mistakes (Tomorrow), starring Desiree Melancon, Laura Hadar,
Marie Hucal, Jess Kimura, Robin Van Gyn, Nicki Slechta, Terra Michilot, Esthera
Preda, Colleen Quigley, June Bhongjan, Darrah
Reid-McLean, Kjersti Buaas and
Laurie Gauvin, represents a new wave of all-female snowboard videos with an unseen before
balls-to-the-wall attitude. Bloody
noses, beer and bone crunching bails abound proving that the old insult "you
ride like a girl" is complete crap.
