Posted On Apr 17 2009, 03:47 PM by encomintor

The crew from MTNOPS decided to throw a tailgate party in Alaska, bringing together pros and common shreds alike to take in the splendors of Alaska. Documenting the outcome, they've put together some episodes of the events that took place. Beers, powder turns and volcanoes all make appearances, and we've got episodes one and two for you.

Episode 2:

Tailgate:
In North America, a tailgate party is a social event held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle. Tailgating often involves consuming alcoholic beverages and grilling food. Tailgate parties usually occur in the parking lots at stadiums and arenas before, and occasionally after or during, sporting events and rock concerts. People attending such a party are said to be tailgating. Many people participate even if their vehicles do not have tailgates.

Tailgate parties have become popular in the United States as social   gatherings events that take place in stadium parking lots before   football games. The use of the tailgate party has spread to the pre-  game festivities at sporting events of all kinds (e.g. baseball and   soccer) and is also used at non-sporting events such as non-sports-  related barbecue gatherings.

Alaska:
Alaska holds a looming place in the minds of snowboarders. Popular snowboarding movies like Picture This, back to 1992's Riders on the   Storm, even movies like theatrically released First Decent have featured Valdez's legendary Chugach mountains. In Valdez, 900" of   average snowfall and a stable snowpack combine with sheer granite peaks that jut from sea level to more than 9000' to create what many   think the ultimate venue for snowboarding ad skiing.

If Rome had the coliseum, wintersports has Alaska. It is one thing that both snowboarders and skiers can agree on - 5000' steep runs   with untracked powder is unprecedented. Thompson Pass cuts a path from Valdez through the heart of the Chugach to the interior. Legend   making peaks like Goodwills, Berlin Wall and Python stand shoulder to shoulder directly above the highway and parking lot - creating a   front country arena unlike anywhere else.

TAILGATE ALASKA combines a major league sports-style Tailgate party with wintersports ultimate mountain venue - Alaska's Chugach   mountains. Brought to you by Alaskan Brewing, TAILGATE ALASKA is a unique event in the world of wintersports.
