In this day
and age, it's never been easier to promote yourself as an athlete. Long gone
are the days of relying on the traditional media to give you a few pages inside
their magazines. Enter "Athlete 2.0": this athlete is extremely skilled at
their given sport and has taken promotion of their career into their own hands.
Setting up a blog, linking it to their social networking profiles, posting
daily content and building an audience. It's just that easy.
It's a fact
that Paul Trep has been recognized as one of Canada's most technical
skateboarders. Just ask anybody who's seen him skate. Whether he's featured on
the pages of Canadian magazines or in the ending of your favorite web videos,
the former DC King of Montreal has decided to take things into his own hands
and give his fans a glimpse into his daily internet habits. Read on for a
little info about the future of what I'm sure many athletes will be doing
within the next few years.

Some people start blogs so they can look
back after a few years and have a bunch of their memories catalogued. When and
why did you start Trep's World?
I made my
page a few months back so that I could have a web page with stuff that I
like to hear or watch. Sometimes I go onto my page and just listen to a track
or look at some photo's...pretty much whatever. If people wanna check it out,
then that's tight.
How did you come up with the name and how
did you settle on it?
I pretty much
just used whatever name came to mind. ‘Trep's World' was an easy one. Why not right?
My world, it's my page.
Who helped you with getting it all set
up?
My homie
Geordie Gillies helped me out with it. He basically helped me set it up, then I
just started posting stuff every second day or whenever I had stuff to post.
Was it hard to get into the rhythm of
posting content?
Nah, not
at all.
What kind of content do you regularly
post?
Skate
video's, throwback shit like skate photo's and music.

Switch Heelflip to 5-0. Odam sequence.
What do you like about having a blog?
I like that I
can go on it and listen to music, watch a video of someone skating, or maybe
just scroll down and find something sick that I posted a month back.
What do you not like about having a blog?
I have to find
new stuff to post up all the time. I'm not just gonna post up some bullshit
that I don't want on there, you know?
How often do you update it? Is it hard to
stay motivated?
Fuck no, I'm
up and it's 7am right now! I'm about to kill some zombies in a bit if it rains,
haha. What you know about that, Black Ops?
Were you on Facebook before this or did
you just start everything at once?
Yeah, I was on
Facebook before this, but I can't really be on Facebook for more than 20
minutes. It makes me feel like I gotta get off the laptop when I'm on that
site. Especially if it's sunny outside, then I'm like, "what the hell am I
doing on Facebook?"
Do you use each of your social media outlets
differently?
I post stuff
up on Tumblr, then it goes directly to Twitter and Facebook. It's kinda sick
how it just link's to your other internet sites.
Do you keep in touch with people that
reach out to you on Twitter (404 followers) and Facebook (288 likes)?
When I go on
Twitter I try my best to keep up with it.

What about when people reach out to you through
social media - do you answer the questions on Facebook, Twitter and your site?
I go on Twitter
and answer them when I can. I haven't been on it in a few days though. I'm too busy
skateboarding and doing other things with my time.
What about monitoring comments on the
site? Have you ever had to delete any comments on your profile?
Nah, I don't really
pay attention to comments. If you like my blog check it out, if not then don't,
haha.
Do you think that using social media is
important for skateboarders these days?
I think it
helps to get your stuff out there. Unfortunately, the Internet is taking over
and skateboarding videos won't sell in stores, which really sucks.
Why should people follow you online?
They should
follow me ‘cause I got some good shit on my page. Check out trepsworld.tumblr.com
for some demo footage in Brandon, Manitoba. Shout out to Colin and his brother
Kane for holding it down when I was out in Brandon.
