Danny Toumarkine Moves Forward
Posted On Feb 01 2012, 05:50 PM by Matt Meadows

With the current level of progression in snowboarding, wearing a helmet has never been more important.  Thankfully, through awareness programs and personal testimonials like that of Kevin Pearce, more and more riders are choosing to sport a bucket.

One professional this critical message is not lost on is Danny Toumarkine. After sustaining a traumatic brain injury, Danny was lucky to escape alive. Following months of rehabilitation, Danny is once again doing what he loves, but it can’t be forgotten than he is one of the lucky ones. For anyone who ever thought twice about wearing a helmet, take a moment out and watch Shreddy Times’ ‘Moving Forward’ documentary on Danny Toumarkine.  I guarantee whatever reservations you once had will be lost.

I"ve lost count of all the helmets I have acquired over the years for all my crazy activities: eventing horses, hockey, snowboarding, white water paddling, mountain biking, roller-blading (although this one was also used for biking!). Perhaps we can use our collections to gauge how cool and diverse we are. I kinda do!

Fighting TBI can be a matter of sticking to your habits when you are hardest hit.  Your brain may no longer see the logic that it once did, but stick to the pre-injury habits & be thankful for the USA.  A colleague, citizen of England and fellow TBI victim, out of Mexico, did not reap the same benefits.  Once a Brit 'recovers' from TBI, England does not provide monetary compesation.  I've enjoyed all $50,000 plus of my cash back assault! Enjoy your TBI American benefits from Uncle Sam.

It's sounds so scary what happened, but I am very happy for this boy to have his life back and live it normally. I would be very sad if he couldn't. So this is a miracle story and I hope that everyone involved in any form of activity that they take precaution.
