Flying in the face of all the negative press about the snow situation (specifically, the lack of snow) at Cypress Mountain, construction of the Olympic halfpipe is actually happening. The Arena Snowparks site -- the company contracted to build the pipe, which is run by Steve Petrie -- has a post up this morning with photos that show real, actual snow being pushed into the shape of a pipe.

With the Olympics starting in just 21 days, the heat (pardon the pun) is clearly on. According to the Arena Snowparks site, they're well aware of this and will be working around the clock to get it done: "Despite some challenging weather conditions in Vancouver area the pipe is starting to take shape with the right wall pushed and step out and the left wall currently being pushed. Construction on the pipe will continue throughout the next two weeks as crews ensure that every available flake of snow sees it's way into the pipe."
We'll keep you posted as the pipe construction progresses. In the meanwhile, everyone involved in the Olympics is no doubt keeping a keen eye on the weather forecast. And now that we know who's representing Canada on the Olympic halfpipe team, the urgency around ensuring the pipe is not only built, but also world-class, seems all the more urgent.
