The streets of Vancouver were full of a different kind of
ruckus this past Saturday (re: not hockey riots), the top am skateboarders in the
region took over a section of Granville Street for the Red Bull Manny Mania
Qualifier. There was a distinct lack of making-out on the pavement but the
competitors were certainly on fire showing off their two-wheeled skills for the
judges and crowd.

Eric Zimmer, half cab to lipslide to maunal to 50-50.

Stacy Gabriel, fakie bigspin to manual.
The 800 block of Granville was shut down for the event and
the sidewalks were lined with on-lookers letting the skaters know when they saw
something they liked with rambunctious applause and cheers. The spectators were
treated to a two-wheeled tutorial in the final and after the judges tallied
their scores they announced the standings. All three on the podium deserved a
chance to head to Ottawa on July 1st for the National Final, but
unfortunately only the top skater of the day will get the chance. Desmond
Hoostie repeated his win from last year, edging out 2nd place skater Eric
Zimmer and Stacey Gariel who rounded out the top three.

Desmond Hoostie, manual to kickflip to nose manual.

Best trick winner Eric Zimmer: manny to fakie manny, three flip out.
Desmond will join the other nine finalists from across the
country, this Friday in Ottawa, and hopes to ring in the Nation's Birthday with
a ticket to the Global Final on August 20th in New York City. 34
countries are sending their top manny maniacs to NYC to see who will reign
supreme and get a chance to compete against their idols in the Red Bull Manny
Mania Pro event on August 21st.

Desmond Hoostie will see you in Ottawa.
