Once again, Horseshoe Resort, north of Barrie, was the first to wave the green flag, signalling the start of the snow season for southern Ontario. After questionable weather in November, winter hit hard in early December (and hasn't let up), giving resorts the go ahead to fire up the lifts. No longer did riders have to suffer through Facebook updates from westerners and their seemingly never ending ear-to-ear smiles and powder days.
Sure, three runs and -15°C wasn't quite what they had out west, but there is a lot of snow to be had and we were there to have it.

Looks crisp.

Going in to put on our boots, this was one of the first things we saw. Brings a tear of joy to my eye...

Under the goggles, headphones, facemask and more is Andrew Skelhorn. He's pumped to be filming for the Capita movie this season.
Also on site were the Rusk brothers, Andrew and Jon, filming laps in a pretty legit opening day park. Forget my crappy photos and watch their latest Ruskasode from Horseshoe's opening day.
Other interesting sightings on opening day: one guy kitted out in a red board, red boots, red bindings, red pants, red jacket, red gloves, red helmet and red bandana. I heard he had red sunglasses on too, but he must've taken them off. That'd just be a bit much. Icing on the cake? Walking to the parking lot with his buddies, one dressed in all blue, the other in all green. I wish I could make this up.
The other sight that I never thought I'd see on opening day was someone riding a Burton Method. I tend to save my $1500 shred stick for day two at least.
Snowboard Canada has a few more pics of the Rusk bros.
