Transworld Cover Controversy
Posted On Aug 24 2009, 11:48 PM by MattCMgr

Some of you may have heard already, some not, so I thought I'd bring it up just in case.

It appears that Transworld Snow was caught altering their cover for an advertiser. Ballpark Franks, an American hotdog company, sponsored their Team Shoot Out challenge, which we've covered here. As part of the contest, the winning team got the cover shot on the first Transworld Snow issue of the season. Rome won, and had a sweet black and white Scott Serfas photo of LNP airing from dumpster to dumpster. When the issue hit the stands, something didn't look right to me and many other people.

The Ballpark logo on the cover looked out of place, appearing as though it has been added after the fact. It was only a matter of time before some proof surfaced, and it did.

Around 1:45 you'll see the container on the cover, without a Ballpark logo. No one seems to know the exact details of the sponsorship deal that would bring Transworld to alter a cover photo, so everything is speculation. What it has done is spark a heated discussion about what this means for the line between advertising and editorial.

The discussion has been raging in the comments of Mike Berard's Following The Die blog. I'll leave you to follow there since a lot has already been said. Make sure you add your two cents if you've got some opinions.

Matt Forsythe was never a pro anything, never entertained the idea of being a has-been, and never made it to the wash cycle, let alone rinse. But damned if he doesn't love action sports enough to have been around the game for a year or seven. After wearing many hats at SBC Media for five of those years, he opted for a sombrero at Push.ca.

In what hopefully becomes an annual tradition, Transworld is back with their Team Shoot Out. Like last
